Miles and miles and miles of oceanfront, the “Pacific Side” has miles and miles, and more miles, of beaches and land that sprouts from the sea, progressively gaining in altitude as you proceed inward from the ocean – west to east. The contrasting, mostly uninhabited, breathtaking topography is a paradox: abundant (here) and scarce when compared to the other major desirable tourist and resort destinations of the world. You can still be “among the first” here.
There are a few, very few, towns between Los Cabos and La Paz, with the notable exception being Todos Santos. However, if you stop in one of the few and visit with the locals, or perhaps grab a snack or a cold drink, you will find that the reception is warm, friendly and memorable. Todos Santos is a small town, but very well known, approximately halfway between Los Cabos and La Paz. Todos Santos was well known in the early days as a mineral-rich area. In more recent years, the town was made famous by the lodging facility known as “The Hotel California” and has become an artist’s haven.
There are many special events held throughout the year for the aspiring art or crafts person. On a daily basis one can stroll through the historic city and enjoy a very rich history that has not been forgotten by the townspeople. Of course, there are the “tourist spots” where you can buy traditional Mexican goods; even beautiful topaz jewelry can still be found here. No one will pressure you to buy and discussions with local merchants are very interesting and worth a visit to each store.
If you love to surf, well, this is the place to be. You are just a stones-throw away from some of the most fantastic waves on the planet. Todos Santos is home to some of the longest waves in the world so you’ll see lots of surfboards strapped to the top of cars headed this way.
On the Pacific Side, once you travel north of Los Cabos, land is still inexpensive when compared to other warm, ocean/sea front areas. Whether you choose to be on the Pacific Side, or some other location in Baja California Sur, full time or part time, there are still very affordable properties to purchase.
There are two first class international airports that serve the Pacific Side. One is located in San Jose del Cabo and the other is located in La Paz; it’s an easy flight to almost anywhere you want to go. The close proximity to the US makes living in Baja California Sur an excellent choice for either a vacation or retirement home. Land’s End Realty has what you are looking for!
